In the Google Play Store as of the second quarter of 2022, there were almost 478 thousand mobile gaming apps, which is a 6.34 percent growth from the first quarter. Google began removing apps and games that don’t target an API level within two years of the most recent Android version in November 2021.
There were roughly 113,897 mobile gaming apps in the Amazon Appstore as of the second quarter of 2022, which is an increase of 0.73 percent from the first quarter. In the app store, games were by far the most popular category, followed by apps for utilities and education.
There were about 295 thousand mobile gaming apps in the Apple App Store as of the second quarter of 2022, which is a 2.61 percent growth from the prior quarter. App makers have been very unhappy with Apple’s recent decision to remove programs from its app store that they deemed to be outdated.
